InDesign opens but not responding. No matter if I try to open an existing document or begin a new file, InDesign freezes about 20-30 seconds after launch.  Big Sur 11.6 OS, most up to date ID and CC.

I've tried:

deleting preferences (20x at least!)

turning off GPU

Adobe cleaner

Completely reinstalling CC

going to an older version of InDesign

For the record, Illustrator is doing the same thing.

My IT people have not be able to figure this out either.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. I would suggest you try the following steps and let us know how it goes:

  • Try running the app in Safe Mode  (Mac) & Root account (Mac)
  • Close all Adobe applications and manually reset preferences by renaming the folders from the following locations:
    ~/Library/Caches
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Rename Adobe InDesign/ Illustrator folders
Launch them from the Creative Cloud app
  • Rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from the following location:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help, rename the extensions folder to extensions.old in the following location:
     /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help either, create a new user account and install the apps from the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

I'll be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Thank you for your quick reply....so I'm admittedly not a pro when it comes to these type of things...what should I rename these folders to? Just add _old at the end?

OK!!! It worked!!

I dd the Safe Mode.

I changed

~/Library/Caches_old
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe_old
~/Library/Preferences *** my computer would not let me change this file name
Rename Adobe InDesign/ Illustrator folders

Then opened Creative Cloud and it forced me to reinstall Indesign. And it worked!!!

Illustrator had to be reinstalled as well and it opened and worked too!

Thank you so much for your help!!
