InDesign opens but nothing works on second monitor

I'm using a MacBook Pro M2 attached to a LG 40WP95C-W monitor running Adobe InDesign version 17.4 on Mac OS Monterey v 12.5.1.

All the other Adobe apps work fine on the second display but InDesign only works on the laptop screen.

What happens:

After trying everything listed below, I'm at the point where the application will open and display the start screen, but none of the buttons on the screen work. The menu dropdowns don't drop down, or they make a vague outline of the dropdown but no text appears.

Here's what I've tried and the result:

Change monitor scaling (Tried 1920x1080, 4608x1944 and 5120x2160) - no effect

Turn off "Use GPU settings" - no change

Delete Application Roaming Data and Local Cached Data folders - no joy

Opening InDesign on laptop screen and then switching to 2nd monitor - crashes instantly

Uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign - no change

Thank you. I tried the suggestions in that thread. However, the application still locks up when started while the laptop is shut. Dragging InDesign to the external monitor allowed the program to continue running, but as soon as I shut my laptop InDesign crashed immediately.

To be clear, I am not trying to display the program on two monitors. I want to be able to open it while the laptop is closed and have it display only on my external monitor.

If I have the laptop closed upon launch, InDesign opens and displays on the external monitor - it does not crash instantly - but the buttons and menu don't actually work, either, as described above.

If I open the laptop and then open the application, it opens on the laptop screen and works fine. Dragging InDesign to the external monitor and closing the laptop causes the program to crash instantly.

I have attached the most recent crash report in case it's helpful.
