Hi all,

I am also having an issue where my indesign file will not save. The "save" option is greyed out and if I try to close indesign it says "cannot save file". I even tried making a copy of the file and it won't let me save any changes to the copy of the file either. I tried going through the process to delete preferences but I don't even have that folder or file on my computer. I am using a Macbook Pro with Monterey 12.3.1 and Indesign version 2021. Can you please help? I am using Wifi on a server at work, and the files are downloaded from a shared drive at that same workplace. I'm not sure if this is the problem? Thanks for your help!

Does it happen with every file or only with that one?

Are you able to export as IDML?

To add to Willi's questions: what happens if you create a new file? Can you save it.

And as for preferences, have you tried to delete using the keyboard shortcuts (hold down the Command-Option-Shift-Ctrl keys as you launch the app)? If so, do you get an error message?

Can you save to your own desktop? This sounds very much like a permissions issue on the shared drive.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I think this had something to do with the shared drive because when I open the file from home, I can save and work on it as usual. Shortly after I posted this, the issue somehow resolved itself after making multiple copies of the file and working on a copy. I was working on my laptop at work so I wasn't working on the shared drive, but the files I was using were downloaded from the shared drive (emailed to myself) and the wifi was their wifi. I don't understand why this would affect how Indesign worked but apparently, it can. I didn't try exporting as an IDML, but if I face the issue again I will try. At home, files are being saved as usual. I tried the keyboard shortcuts and it seemed like nothing was happening.

Anyways, it seems resolved for now, and I'll keep you updated if there is another problem. Thanks again for the help!
