I have an Indesign book where I'm trying to create a TOC with all the chapters. It pulls in all the other chapters but leaves out several. I have checked the paragraph styes and they are all in place. What else could I be missing?

Hi Jessie:
If they are all in the book window, it almost always comes down to spelling inconsistencies on your paragraph styles. To InDesign Heading1, Heading 1, and heading1 are three different tag names. Sometimes it can be a space at the end of a name (which we can't see) or in one file the heads are in a style group (folder) while others they are not.
If you can't find the issue, please show the heading tags in the Paragraph Styles panel in a file that is being called into the TOC and one that is not.

They appear to be the same spelling. Here are two screen shots.
I'm also having trouble with the page numbers being updated in the TOC.

Invaluable comment - exactly our problem - the paragraph style was siting in a different place in the style group folder - when we changed this all was well! Thank you!

Can you share your Table of Contents dialog box and your book window?

Here are both.

With such a long list of paragraph styles, I can't see the complete list on either side. It looks like you're primarily pulling in level one and level two heads, do you see anything resembling those names in the list on the right-hand side?

Yes, mostly level one and two. Not sure what you mean on the right hand side? You mean under "Other Styles"? No, there is nothing similar to it.

Ok. I can't see any reason why things aren't working correctly from the screen shots you have provided. I'm happy to look at the book (or a copy of the book with just the TOC file, a working chapter and a non-working chapter). If you decide to share your files, please package them via the Book panel menu, put it on Dropbox and post a link here (public) or hover over my name above and message me the link (private).

I am having the same issue. It leaves off last five chapters.
I was using it for an another document about six months ago (its May 2020 now) and I had the same issue and ended up just adding htem manually. Never did find a reason for the error. That document had completely different formatting, styles etc, nothin gin common with this one. I was told to get rid of the preferences which I did but was to no avail.
This time I am hoping some one has a solution. All chapters have EXACTLY the same pragraph styles.
What can I look at?
