InDesign Workspace Resets Itself After Force Quit

Within the last few weeks whenever InDesign has force quit itself, my custom workspace resets (I lose default swatches I set, lose my preset font, hyphenate turns back on, lose my balance ragged lines, overprint is checked on) & end up with InDesign's defaults. Even if i click "Reset Workspace" it just makes sure I have all of my tools in the same order. I'm super annoyed, have tried restarting & reinstalling with no luck but to manually go through all of them again. Anybody else having this issue?

Hi @ksell414 ,

I would recommend you to save your settings.

With InDesign 19.4 or 19.5 you can do it in two ways, with versions below 19 the first option is available:

[1] Save all your preferences and caches for a main version like 19 ( InDesign 2024 ) .

User > [YOUR USERNAME] > Library > Preferences > Adobe InDesign > Version 19.0

User > [YOUR USERNAME] > Library > Caches > Adobe InDesign > Version 19.0

Backup both Version 19.0 folders. You may have done this anyway with perhaps TimeMachin

A lot of people don't know that after you set up a zillion preferences and tweaks, you need to re-start InDesign in order to have it write them down and really keep them. Without a restart, if you crash, most things will be lost.

I wrote a "Adobe InDesign 2024 tour of 30 presets, styles, automations" that discusses all this in much detail. Available on my website.

Unfortunately, we are not mind readers - what platform, OS and ID version?

Then we can try to help you.

Of course, no problem.

We are just users - like you - and we don't have direct access to your machine nor Adobe account.

There is InDesign 19.5 so you might want to upgrade.

But what is the version of Mac OS? You might need to update it as well.

Then you should pressure them to allow you to do it - I'm not a Mac user but a lot of people report a lot of problems fixed after updating.

Then, you should make sure that you have correct access rights to InDesign's installation folders.

[2] Use a relative new feature to export your user settings from the File menu of InDesign.

File > User Settings > Export User Settings

File > User Settings > Import User Settings

All details here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/export-import-user-settings-indesign.html
