Hello support community,
today we had an unpleasant experience in the editorial office.
We graphic designers work with InDesing CS6, the editors with InCopy CS6,
our editorial-pint-system is K4 (which can only process CS6)
All editors received the following error message in InCopy when checking their articles:
Missing add-on modules. File cannot be opened
PACKAGE AND PREFLIGHT.APLN
We are working for the first time with preflight settings which we have embedded in our templates.
All documents work beautifully with the new settings via InDesing.
All attempts to work on it with InCopy fail. InCopy CS6 doesn't seem to have a folder
for storing the PreflightSettings - copying them to the folder structure from InDesing to InCopy
doesn't do anything either
Anyone know advice?
Greetings Andreas

Contact Vjoon. Unless you're using very old Mac or Windows machines you are in unsupported territory with software that is 10 years old.

We did. It can be set in K4 that missing plugins are noted, but the opening of the files should still be allowed.
Its working again. However, I cannot understand why InDesign preflight settings lead to an error in InCopy.
We will continue testing in the middle of the week, now it's time for the end of the day and tomorrow the production of the current issue will be announced.
Thank you for your feedback Bob 🙂

Often, mostd plugins working in InDesign should work in InCopy. Try to copy the working plugin from InDesign to the InCopy place. I did often expand InDesign with copying even core plugins from one application to the other and it was running fine, but it must be the same version.

Thanks Willi,
we tried, InCopy doesn't accept it in this case - it was the same version.
It is interesting that there is a corresponding folder in the InCopy CC versions.
In InCopy 6, however, this is missing.

Right--but that is your company's choice not to upgrade in a decade. Hopefully, the IT dept. hasn't upgraded the OS either, including on the servers. As a general rule, if one uses old software, stay with an old OS. This also applies for other plugins, such as font managers. (I realize this may not have been your choice or within your control.)
If you are running preflight, are you near the end of your production cycle? Perhaps you can stop the InCopy workflow right before final output.

Hello David,
no, it was not and is not my responsibility which updates are carried out
.... and there are intentions for an update/new editorial system and everything related to it.
From time to time we have problems with exposure via K4 - the reason is mostly advertisements.
Therefore, the idea was and is to be informed about possible problems early on
and during the entire production with preflight settings integrated in the templates.
As I said, things went well for all "InDesing colleagues", only the editors were no longer able to
check out the articles via InCopy - the reason for this was a supposedly missing plugin.
If we find a solution, I'll let you know
Andreas
