Inported Word document to InDesign does not export to PDF

New Here ,

I imported a 261-page Word document into InDesign. After completing the process of inserting all the pages, I attempted to export it to PDF, but encountered an issue. Despite leaving it overnight, the document did not successfully convert to PDF; it simply kept spinning indefinitely. I' using the InDesign version18.4 x64. Could you please advise if I am doing something incorrectly? I have successfully used InDesign for other textbooks, each with no more than 35 pages.

InDesign 18.4 had some PDF export issues which may or may not be related to your problem. Try to update to 18.5 first.

Before you upgrade, can you share your export steps? (Document length shouldn't be a concern—I routinely export 200+ page docs to PDF.)

Here are the general steps:

  1. Create an InDesign document and save it.
  2. File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print) or Adobe PDF (Interactive), depending on what you intend to do with the PDF
  3. Choose your export settings and click Export
  4. Open the resulting PDF in Adobe Acrobat or Reader.
