Inserted images turns black

Hi. When I insert images into the image box - the image doesn't show and the box turns black instead... Does anyone know why? I have updated Indesign to the newest version, and haven't experienced this before.

What is your OS?

OS? 

The display performance is set at "high".. It looks like others have the same problem.. I have tried resetting the preferences when opening the program.. but without luck

From your screen shot I can see you are working on a Mac. Try turning off video performance in the prefs.
