interactive navigation menu

New Here ,
Feb 08, 2018 Feb 08, 2018

Hi

I want to create an interactive PDF to work on screen that has a button of menus that runs down the left hand side (a bit like a menu of a website)

I want it to appear on every page and be clickable back to any other section. It needs to work on iPad too.

Whats the best way of doing this? I’ve used TOC before but can’t get my head around this

Thanks

Have a read of this blog: It's okay to say no to interactive PDF

I hope you didn't promise anyone you could do it. The chances of being successful on all devices is almost zero. And if you want that menu to appear static the chances are zero.

This can be very simply done by putting the menu in a frame on a master page which will appear on all pages.  Then use cross reference to anchored text from the menu items on the master page to where in the document you want to jump to.  Make sure you have 'Hyperlinks' turned on when creating the pdf.

Will this work on an iPad?

I don't have an ipad so I don't know.  I presume normal cross referencing links in pdfs work on ipads such as table of contents?

I have a very rough mock-up of this but I don't know where to upload it for you to check.

They don't work on my MacBook Pro or my iPad, this is how it looks:

That's it.  Did you download it?  It doesn't work in a browser.

Please see response number two. Thinking this will work on all devices/readers is a fantasy.

I'm not trying to be cold or discouraging but you're going to have to narrow your target audience or control expectations. There are too many devices and readers out there to think you can get something to work all over.
