New Here ,

Hello,

I am currently having a problem with an interactive pdf which I created with indesign. Every time I hover the buttons the whole screen turns grey, when they're actually supposed to change color when hovering over and change to a different page when clicking on them. I checked everything tried different settings and exported the file various times and I still have no Idea why this happens. If you know anything about this please let me know, I appreciate every advice!!

Hi there,

We are sorry to hear about your experience. I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • OS & version of InDesign
  • Download link of a sample file in which you are able to replicate the issue.
  • A screenshot or a small video demonstrating the issue would be really helpful for us.
  • If you are on macOS, please check if turning off “GPU Performance” from InDesign Preferences > GPU Performance > uncheck GPU Performance helps to resolve the issue?

We are here to help. We just need more information.

Regards,

Anshul Saini

Don't use roll-over buttons on an Interactive PDF, as they won't work on mobile devices like smart phones and tablets. Instead you can use a word or words or an image, such as a button shape (with a the word on it) as a hyperlink to another part of the document or to an external website.

It happens because interactive PDF is horribly unpredictable and therefore very unreliable. Beyond Acrobat and Reader on a desktop computer, it's a total crapshoot and even there, in some instances it can still be wonky.

My usual advice stands. Keep it as simple as possible and the minute you start doing things that emulate websites, give it up and create a website.
