I am updating a company newsletter for online viewing that someone else made. This is my first time working with Indesign. I have the newsletter completed, but I would like to create interactive tabs on the first page so that readers can click on a word and be redirected to the correct article. I've tried creating a new table of contents, hyperlinks, buttons, and bookmarks. Nothing seems to work. I have spent 2.5 days working on this. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

When you say "nothing seems to work"--how are you testing it? Virtually all the techniques you tried should work. What happens to the link when you look at it in Acrobat Pro?

When I test the links in EPUB. Nothing happens. There doesn't seem to be
any link or connection from the TOC to the document. Also, I am working
with someone else's document setup so I'm thinking, I need to reset
everything because all the anchors and bookmarks don't exist anymore and I
can't figure out how to sync the anchors, bookmarks, and buttons I need.

What is your output intent? PDF? EPUB? Publish Online?

If it's PDF you can pretty much forget all of this, but for EPUB or Publish Online these should work so you'll need to supply more info.

If your output is to EPUB, what kind of EPUB exactly?

Fixed Layout (FXL) one?
