Issue with Constrain Proportions in InDesign 2025 (20.0)

Community Beginner ,
Oct 22, 2024 Oct 22, 2024

Constrain proportions for width and height in InDesign 2025 (20.0) is broken. In previous versions of InDesign the constrain-status would stay the way you selected always, now you have to link it every time you scale something, it's quite annoying and adds an extra step to workflow.

Hi everyone / G_Man,

I’m happy to share that the issue with Constrain Proportions has been fixed! The fix has been implemented in InDesign 20.1.0.36, and the team has retested it on both Windows and Mac to ensure it’s working as expected.

Please update your InDesign to the next coming version once made available publicly (20.1) via the Creative Cloud app to apply the fix.

Thank you all for your patience and feedback throughout this process. If you encounter any further issues or have question

Correct. Yup, sadly this has been neglected. This is highly unprofessional. Having to convert all 2025 ID files back to 2024 files is a real chore.

Hi @G_Man ,

see my workaround using the percentage input fields with values plus measurement unit.

Hi Uwe,

Yes I saw that some time back, thank you. It's a workaround of sorts but realistically, this is highly unsatisfactory when one needs to deal with very specific values.

Exactly. Adobe has broken a feature that worked perfectly logically for years. Maybe if I delete v.2025 and go back to an earlier version?

Yes indeed. Delete V24 and reinstate V24. It means taking on the highly irritating task of converting all your recent V25 files back to V24, while we wait our masters to release the update - which is not forthcoming. Yet.

We will have waited 3 months to get this simple fix.

This is what I call a real good-for-value-for-money from Adobe. Not.

Well, its 16th of January, how do You call it? After mid-January? Still no update, and the Constrain Proportion bug is still active and still working is twice as hard as it was before. Do we get a discount?

Abhishek Rao - it is now the 23rd of January - where the heck is this update?? Frankly, I think you have been strining us all along for the last month since you announced it had been "fixed" - but not released. In the UK, this is not available yet. Can you tell me specifically, when this will be completed? PLEASE??? Why are we still waiting??

Hi @G_Man

The full phase rollout was completed yesterday. Could you please check the Creative Cloud Desktop app to see if the 20.1 version is available? Refer to the screenshot below:

If you don't see the 20.1 version (as shown above), you will need to manually push the Creative Cloud Desktop app to check for updates via the "Installed apps" panel on the right. Check the screenshot:

Let me know how it goes.

Are you referring to some specific bug fox - or just availability of 20.1 update?

@G_Man

Thanks for the screenshot. As you see in the screenshot, the update is available for you. There is "update all" button adjacent to the "Enable Auto updates" button. You can click on it and the InDesign should start updating.

Note: Make sure to close any InDesign window (if open) before clicking on the button.
