Just updated to InDesign 18.5. Now it won't open.

My CC account automatically updated my InDesign to v 18.5 sometime yesterday (I was away from my desk and didn't notice). Now it refuses to open unless I clear preferences (Command, Control, Option, Shift), reverting it to the default interface. However, if I quit InDesign, it refuses to open again unless I clear the preferences again.

Hi Eric and Dean,

uninstall and go back to the previous version 18.4 or 18.3 or 18.2…

And disable auto update for all apps in your Creative Cloud Desktop app.

When on macOS with Ventura, did you update the OS to 13.5?

That has helped some.

Already done. There was (and still is, at the time of this writing) nothing in the system requirements that said anything about needing OS 13.5.

Well, that may be the case, I did not check, but updating macOS to 13.5 helped some people here in the forum with similar issues. So this is one thing you could try if you must use InDesign 18.5.0 for any reason.

Personally I already do production work with InDesign 18.5.0 on macs and windows machines. I have no issues to start-up or to close InDesign. But in both cases I run InDesign on older hardware with older OS versions. macOS 12.6.5 and 12.6.8 with machines from around 2020, 2021. And an old laptop with Intel processor from about 2016 with Windows 10.
