Upon launch of InDesign (version 17.1), the keyboard does not work at all. Must wait some time before getting any response from the keyboard.

Odd behavior like this is typically fixed by trashing the prefs: Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting
If that doesn't solve it, tell us your OS (and version) and if you have any third-party plugins.
