Leavers Hoodie Design text wrap

Hi All,

I need to make a design for a leavers hoodie which is a bunch of names inside the numbers "20". I'm sure you know the type of thing...

The 20 will be hollow (using SportsJersey font or similar with no fill and black stroke) and inside the numbers need to be all the kids names, filling the inside but not going out the edge. Basically an inverted text wrap but I don't know how to do it - I'm guessing making the 20 an object (not quite sure best way to do that) and then typing within the object. Seems simple but the way to do it is escaping me!

Also, just centre justifying the text doesn't make it quite right as I don't really want it to have some squashed up words and some really separated like F     R     E     D  etc. And it needs to spread across the two numbers 2 and 0, so I can change the size of the font until it fills the two numbers.

Thanks in advance.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for reaching out. In order to write names inside a number 20, you can type 20 using the Type Tool and then try Type > Create Outlines and you would be able to right inside the number 20 and then you can scale the names inside it accordingly.

Hi Rishabh,

That's great, thanks! One other thing - I need to indent the text from the edge of the numbers and I can do that in the paragraph tab, but it indents from the left and right of the whole object (ie the left of the 2 and the right of the 0, but not the right of the 2 and the left of the 0). I need it to indent from the left and right of each number 2 and 0 so no text touches the outline. Is that possible? Or do I need to create two separate objects, one for the 2 and one for the 0?

Thanks

Tony

Creating two separate objects would give you more flexibility.

You can also control the inset through Object>Text Frame Options.

Depending on how many names you're working with, it can be tricky to control how the text flows within an irregular shape like a number. Other features that can be helpful in such situations are Hyphenation (turn it off), Full Justified alignment, Flush spaces (under the Type menu, Insert White Space), Tracking, and the Word Spacing values in the Justification dialog. But without seeing it, it's impossible to say exactly what you'll need.

Regards,

Nigel

InDesign does not have a mobile device version, no.

I don't know of any full-power layout and design apps that do; the ceiling seems to be "lite" versions of Photoshop and Premiere, neither of which need precision input as page layout etc. does.
