Liquid Page Rule Default

I receive a dozen files each month from a client that are the wrong size (and they refuse to fix them). Each file is two pages that are 11.25 x 6.25 and need to be 11.0625 x 6.025. All I had to do in the past was change the document setup to the correct size. I used to be able to do this for years in InDesign and the content would all stay the same size and stay centered on each page.

For quite some time now, when I change the Document Setup, the content doesn't stay centered unless I first go to the Liquid Layout, click on each of the two individual pages with the Page Tool, and change the Liquid Layout Rule to re-center on each. Then I can go do Document Setup and change the page size to the correct size.

I am wasting a lot of time to do something that used work automatially without these extra steps.

Is there a way to set a preference somewhere to make the re-center automatic? I don't see anything under Preferences, and there is no submenu under the Liquid Layout palette.

I am still using InDesign 2019 due to some plug-ins we use that haven't released versions to work with 2020 or 2021.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Blanche,

do you still see this issue with the customer's InDesign document on InDesign CC 2019?

Are the documents facing pages documents?

Should the document be facing pages documents if they are?

Please check that with Document Setup.

Thanks,
Uwe Laubender

No, the documents are not in facing pages, and do not need to be. They are two-page documents for postcards.

Hi Blanche,

could you post such a document? I'd like to see into it.

Best use Dropbox or a similar service to share a download link.

Do not attach a document, because you will not be able to remove after posted.

If its content is confidential remove the text and the images, but not the text frames and the frames holding the images.

Thanks,

Uwe Laubender

Hi Blanche,

diagnosis and solution:

[1] The sample document once was indeed created as Facing Pages Document.

You see that, because in A-Master are two master pages in the spread.

[2] The document was created with InDesign version 7.0.0.355.

That is the first version of InDesign CS5 with no bug fixes at all.

This fact could contribute to your issue, but maybe not.

[3] I can see the issue you have if I change the page size with Document Setup.

The solution:

First remove one of the two master pages with A-Master,

then change the page size with Document Setup.

Uwe Laubender

That worked. That will save me so much time every month!

Thank you so much for your time looking into this.

You could also change the page size with the Page Tool.

But then you will have to do an extra step to change the page size of the two pages on A-Master as well.
