Liquid Page Rule. Resizing font size

Hi All,

I am experimenting with liquid resizing. I want to use object-based liquid page rule because it works best with all of my page elements except for font size in my text boxes. How do I get my font size to scale up with my resize using liquid layouts without using liquid page rule scale?

Thanks for any tips!

Hi @Nick5FF2,

Thank you for your question about resizing font sizes with Liquid Layouts! While the Object-Based Liquid Page Rule works well for resizing other elements, it doesn’t automatically scale font sizes. However, a workaround that we would like to suggest to achieve this:

1. Use Paragraph or Character Styles with Scalable Properties:

-Set your font size to a percentage-based value within your styles.
-When resizing the page, manually adjust the percentage in one step to scale text proportionally.

2. Enable Auto-Size for Text Frames:

-Select the text frame, go to Object > Text Frame Options (Ctrl + B or Command + B).
-Under the Auto-Size tab, set the auto-sizing options to adapt to the frame size.
-Ensure the text frame grows or shrinks with your page size changes.

3. Combine with Object-Based Liquid Rules:

-Pin text frames to their desired position using the Object-Based Liquid Page Rule.
-After resizing, manually adjust font size or use scalable paragraph styles as needed.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Thanks for that. I am aware of some of these options and will explore in depth each of your comments. Its seems a shame that the font size and other text attributes don't just scale up as they do with other elements when using liquid page rule. I think my best option is to do the resizes of all of the elements including the text box and then once complete set the text box to autoscale and then apply the font size update. This seems to fix overset text issues.

Hi @Nick5FF2,

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I completely understand your point about the limitation of Liquid Page Rules when it comes to scaling font sizes automatically. It’s a valid observation, and your outlined approach of resizing all elements first, setting the text frame to autoscale, and then updating the font size is an efficient solution to address overset text issues.

If you find this workflow adds extra steps, I recommend sharing your feedback via Adobe's UserVoice platform. Suggestions from users like you are instrumental in helping us improve InDesign's capabilities.

Feel free to reach out if you have further questions.
