Maintaining hyperlinks when linking to an ID document

I have a parent document that is linked to from other child documents, so that when updates are made they carry through.

The problem I'm having is that the hyperlinks don't seem to carry through to the child documents.

Example: Book 1 has a link on page 8. Books 2+ have page 8 linked to the book 1 ID file. In book 1 the hyperlink works but in books 2+ it does not.

Is this even possible to have work?
