Multiple linked text frames > rearrange footnotes

Hello! 

I have a big document that was rearranged so that the chapters are now "mixed", meaning that they were single "blocks" before, and now it's a few pages of chapter 1, then a few of chapter 2, then 3 and then 1 again and so on. The initial chapter blocks had linked text frames with running footnotes. The text frames would need to be mixed in the same way, but the footnotes still need to run continuously. 

Unlinking the text frames leaves the text still belonging to the initial frame, and adding frames to the row doesn't work either. 

And if this wasn't enough trouble: each chapter has its paragraph style that needs to be maintained. 

Does anyone know an easy solution?

Is that XML or Non-XML workflow.

Are you using InDesign footnote options, if yes.

Then, while merging content, copy content from one Indesign file and paste it in the same frame not as separate frame.

To know further about your issue attach screenshot.

Hi @sonjaado ,

to work that out you need one continous stream of text flowing from page to page in the order of your pages.

Please show a screenshot with what you currently have. Text frames selected, frame edges showing, hidden characters showing and also threaded frames.

Hello! 

It is all in one file; I attached two screenshots where you can see how the text frames are linked.

As you can see, the links jump several pages, which is how the document was initially organised. Ideally would link from one page to the next, with no jumping. 

It would be great if there were a solution that doesn't include copying text and making it one continuous flow that way, as the document has over 100 pages.

Hi Sonja,

well, in this case you have to re-thread all your text frames in the order you like to see the numbering of your footnotes.

Before you do anything make sure that you have a secure backup of the InDesign document.
