There is a problem to change the name of the alternate layouts within the pages panel. I can't change this after clicking it. This issue started since I updated to OS Big Sur a couple of days ago... Never had this issue before within OS. It's really annoying because working with alternate layouts saves me a lot of time when working.
Nevertheless, you should report this issue as bug at InDesign UserVoice:
https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs
Make sure that you point out the difference between a docked and a free-floating Pages panel.
FWIW: I cannot see the issue on Windows 10. Pages panel free-floating or docked.

Hi,
seems that the naming of page items in the Layers panel can also be affected.
At least three incoming reports suggesting this where in two of the three an update to OS X Big Sur was mentioned.
See into the following threads:

I set up a test Big Sur (release version) with InDesign 2021. Had no problem changing layer names:

I also tested renaming a group in Big Sur and InDesign 2021, and had no problems:

I updated to InDesign 2021, hoping it would solve problems and affected naming 'alternate layouts' in the Pages Panel. I don't know what happens with groups, but this is a big issue since updating to Big Sur.
Never, ever had this problem before.

Hi Kim,
does it make a difference if the Pages panel is not docked with other panels?
If it is free floating?

Hello Uwe,
I've just tested the free-floating Pages Panel and what you suggested worked. I can rename each layout.
This is a good way of solving this issue now. Hopefully, it will also be solved with docked panels in the future.
Big thanks!
Kim

Hi Ahmed,
try the workaround:
Make the Pages panel a free-floating panel not docked to other panels and try again to rename the alternate layouts.
