No rulers in new ID file

Enthusiast ,

Not sure what I did but now whenever I open a new ID doc, there are no rulers. I tried quitting, rebooting app, make sure rulers are on. Type a sentence. Save. When I open a new doc, no rulers. How do I get a new doc to open with rulers? I know it's something basic but I'm having a brain freeze and google only returns "how to use rules and guides" which doesn't answer my question.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. Make sure no document is open when you change the Ruler setting. Once done, all new documents will have the changed setting enabled.
When you open a document and then make change, it is applied to the current document opened only.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Ashutosh

I was looking under prefs and document settings. Finally, I checked under view. It's weird that ID has prefs all over the place.

Okay it's July 2024 and I accidentally turned off rulers. I made InDesign active. I toggled rulers (hide and then show) so rulers are active. I go to create new ID file and no rulers. It's driving me nuts.

I don't understand what you mean: InDesign was “active” if you were able to turn off rulers.

I made InDesign active.

So, what do you mean?

You need to do it with no files open, and it wouldn't hurt to then shut down and restart InDesign.
