Nothing in my app is working

I have been trying to just close InDesign so I can restart it because nothing is working at all. Every time I try to quit the application on my MacBook Pro I get a message that says "Cannot handle the request because a modal dialog or alert is active". I know for a fact there are no files open so I'm not sure what I am supposed to do.

Force Quit it:

  • Opt+Cmd+Esc
  • Choose InDesign from the list
  • Force Quit

This message means that a dialog box is opened. Try to hit either the return key or the escape key. If it doesn't help, reset inDesign preferences: quit InDesign and relaunch it while holding down the  Shift, Ctrl, Alt and Cmd keys until you see a warning message asking for confirmation.

This message also means that you could have an ID dialog box open that requires a response, and is moved out of view.
