Hi I'm hoping you can help with problems I’ve run into with paragraph styles for an ebook I'm designing. I've tried the usual fixes like uninstall/reinstall, restart computer, reset preferences. I have also retyped affected content on new inserted pages. And tried other documents. I have a brand new, high-powered computer (Omen gaming laptop) that meets all the InDesign specs. I didn't import or paste any of the content from Word. I'm not using soft returns (ie. I'm pressing enter not shift + enter).
Additional background: I spent over 3 hours in Adobe chat and on the phone with them a few days ago (I timed it), in one session trying to get resolved other problems I've been having that just randomly cropped up after having worked fine previously. Eg: not being able to package documents or use find/replace. I get error messages every time I export documents as PDF or epubs to the latest version of Kindle Previewer.
The Adobe agents kept escalating to other engineers/tech experts with more knowledge as they tried to figure things out. They did resolve some of the problems after three hours, but those fixes have only been intermittently fixed. Also they couldn't resolve the problem with over 10 files disappearing (that's ok tho as I regularly save to my computer).
Below is my current and most pressing problem I'm hoping you can help me for my ebook. I'm so close! Only 12 pages left to apply para styles to and it's done. Screenshots below to show the problems. I apologise if it's something I've done wrong but I can't think what and I didn't change anything. I have tried setting new para styles but nothing works.
Screenshot 1: how my paragraphs should look (I've set the para style to 8mm after paras)
Screenshot 2
How it shouldn't look - see the small space between paragraphs 1 and 2 below. This happens for either a couple of paras or a whole column or a whole page. So this is just one example of many.

Below is an example of random font colour changes to grey when I apply a black font para style. I know this one is easy to fix by changing the font colour back to black but it’s the lack of logic I don’t understand.

Below you can see my settings inside the para styles panel – which worked fine till page 28 of 40.
Error message from Adobe just now when I finished typing this here.

Are you sure that you have not any empty paragraphs? Can you post a screenshot showing hidden characters? Also your screenshot #4 shows that you have defined 8 mm after the paragraph BUT you have set this space to 0 for paragraphs using the same style

Hi @ali_4619:
It is always helpful to share screenshots with Type > Show Hidden Characters enabled, particularly when there are spacing issues. This lets us see how you are spacing the paragraphs.
In addition, InDesign has two features that help us with overrides. The Style Override Highlighter [a+] at the top of the Paragraph styles panel helps us locate them, and the Clear Overrides in Selection button ¶* at the bottom of the Paragraph Styles panel will quickly remove them.
In my demo below, I'm enabling the style highlighter to see where the overrides are. Then I'm selecting the text and clearing the overrides. And finally, I'm using Edit > Find/Change to use the query (included with your InDesign) to clean up the spacing.
Before you try any of this, however, be sure that you save your file so that if any of these commands do something unexpected for you, you can just undo or Revert to the last saved version.
