Hi there, I have been looking for a way to be able to password protect Indesign files. I finally found this app Protect INDD and purchased it.

When I tried to open it it says that it has to be opend in Rosetta mode and not native Indesign which I am not going to do. I am trying to get my money back (not a big spend I know but still)

Are there any other apps that I can use to password protect indesign files.

Thanks

Tony

Did you check with the developer to see if/when they are releasing a native M1 version?

What is the purpose of protecting your document? Are you trying to protect them from a client or other persons in the same company?

What is the basis of your concern? Are you working on high-security documents? I doubt the plugin would stop a determined hacker.

You could use Apple's FileVault and/or lock the files in password-protected zip archives.

There are far better ways to protect files. AFAIC, you're pretty much wasting your time and money.

I suppose you could attach your InDesign file to a pdf (View> Show/Hide> Navigation Panes> Attachments> Add attachment, or drag and drop). You can encrypt and protect a pdf with a password in Acrobat.

Many third party PDF readers won't honor that security at all.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. There should be absolutely no reason to have to password protect individual InDesign files.

Ok thanks. I have a reason and was looking for a solution but there isn't one. Eevryone has different needs for things.

Thanks for your answers.

There are several levels of Acrobat pdf security, the ability to get around the "do not edit" security is pretty easy, the "do not open" security cannot be circumvented, AFAIK.

Based on the vague information supplied, the OP was concerned about computer hacking, not sharing files. So, it would require a more advanced protection method. I'm curious was to why only InDesign files are a concern, but the OP is did not say why he needs for only ID protection vs. all files. (For example, linked files would not be protected.)

Again, based on the info supplied, I suggest:

File Vault or another utility that encrypts the entire drive.

Keeping critical files in password-protected zip files and un-zip as needed.

Or Password protect folder (images) as @JonathanArias mentioned.
