Hi,
Is it possible to paste an object within a text frame that has a solid background applied - but send that fill behind the text so that the object lies behind the text as well? Text should be at top of stacking order.
Or, do I need to work-around splitting up the background w/ object from the text box?
Thanks.
If I understand the question correctly, it can't be done.
Pasting an object into a text frame at an active insertion point results in an "anchored object," which by nature appears in front of the text. Pasting an object into an empty text frame (using Edit > Paste Into) effectively converts the text frame to a graphic frame.

You cannot paste ane object into a text frame. You can anchor it.
But you can paste any image into a graphic frame. If you want to add text, create a text frme nd an image frame, group it, copy or cut it into the clipbord and paste it into the graphic frame. Frame color doe’t matter.

Without separate frames, the only way I know to get near what you are going for is to set the image as an Anchored Object with its transparency set to Multiply. This allows the text to show through the image, but will also allow the background color to show through the image, so this may not be the answer you need.
IMO, using separate frames for text and image in this case is not a workaround, it's just how InDesign works.

Yes, got it. Thanks for the confirmation that it can't be done.

"Thanks for the confirmation that it can't be done."
Well, it can be done.
There are three different kinds to anchor an object.
What you need is Inside Inline Anchor for this.
But this is not so flexible.
First comes the anchored object.
In the next paragraph the text that should be rendered above the anchored object.
From my German InDesign:
The Story Editor window is showing the order of things:

OK, this method would do it. And the yellow rectangle can have an EPS file (for example, a geometric pattern) pulled in?
Thank you.

Of course. The yellow rectangle is just a graphic frame that could contain anything.
An image, a pasted inside group of objects etc.etc.

But avoid EPS. Use PDF/X-4 instead.
