Hey everyone, I'm really struggling here. Working on a document in indesign, in which i've imported jpegs (created in photoshop). Everything was going well, then I modified and saved a new Jpeg. Updated the link in InDesign, and now the pdf exports are pink. (primarily in the white areas of the black and white images).
I know that this often has to do with color profiles, but I cant seem to find the problem.
Using InDesign 2025
Photoshop file is in CMYK mode.
InDesign document is in Print mode.
Transparency Blend space set to CMYK (though also tried RGB)
I've tried exporting to pdf using all the preset options.
I've tried modifying output settings to "no color conversion" as well as "convert to destination"
Any suggestions?
(PDF attached. The original images have a pure grayscale background, no warmth or pink)

My jpeg is cmyk mode, as is my ID file.

InDesign files don't have a single color mode. You can use both RGB and CMYK and your output will be converted to the specified device profile.

The intent is pretty 50/50 print and digital.

Document intent is a choice you make during document setup. You have a choice of Print, Web or Mobile and they each have specific properties they set. Only Print uses a 100%K default [Black] definition, the others are RGB mixes and will result in color shifts (see the thread that @Robert at ID-Tasker mentioned).

OK, but what's the [Black] definition - CMYK or RGB?
And what if you create new INDD file - for Print?

Everything is CMYK.
New files give the same result.

You can try one more thing...
Rasterize your PDF in Photoshop - and check color values of those gray, background pixels?

@Robert at ID-Tasker Looking at the pdf, its still pink. Once I open it in PS, it looks pure grayscale.

Interesting...
But when you print this PDF - from which app - is pinkish?
Or are you printing directly from InDesign?

I'm creating a pdf from ID and that result is pink. Likewise, if I send straight to a printer from ID, we get pink.

Then there is DEFINITELY something wrong with InDesign...
Can you create a new user in your system?
Or you could trash your preferences or use CC Cleaner - but let's not go so nuclear just yet 😉

I have not tried to create a new user... but I've asked a coworker to open the ID file on their system and try exporting. Same result.

Which would mean that all your machines are somehow "corrupted" - set to the same wrong settings in the color settings?
Can you, just in case, post new screenshots from ALL places related to color profiles / settings?
Including Bridge.

Or, as you're on Windows - you could use FREE version of my ID-Tasker tool, to get a COMPLETE info about your document - every property with "Color" or "Profile" in the name:

Checking to be sure I've remember all this correctly..
Same image in a new file has same problem, right?
If yes, then could you possibly crop out a small piece of the image, save as a new PSD and a new jpeg and place them in a new file, then package that file and put the package on a file share server and give us a link?

@Peter Spier correct.

Here is a WeTransfer link where you can download a cropped down psd file, the exported jpeg, an ID file, and the exported pdf. Jpeg looks great. Pdf is pink.
I will say, I cropped my overall file significantly, and the resulting psd file is still 2.5 gigs. Due likely to the linked background image. I suspect this has something to do with my issue, as the linked image is what was replaced when we started encountering the pink issue. I thought that linking the jpeg was the better way to do things, but maybe not?

Linking is always the best method.
Being that your original PDF show gray accurately to others but not you, I have to suspect that it is a display problem, but one that carries through to the printer. (I don't remember if it showed as pink in InDesign for you or not.)
What are the results if you rasterize the PDF in Photoshop and take a color reading of the "gray" background?
Some Acrobat settings to check:

Yeah, opening the pdf in PS just gives me a gray background.
Will note that I dont use acrobat to open/view/print pdfs. We use Revu. (which was the case before the pink issue began)

Just tried on my Win 10 system with CS6 which was open, and File > Place didn't see a .psb, but I was able to drag and drop from Explorer.
