Permissions in InDesign

I recently sent a packaged InDesign file to a client. They were unable to open it because they did "not have permission." This has never happened before, and I did not change any settings. The only thing that's different is a newer version of Indesign in Adobe CC that I updated about a week ago.

I don't remember. But I've sent the "problem" file to a couple of others and they can unzip and open it. So it sounds like an issue on the client's side.

Cheers!

We need the exact message they are getting but make sure both of you are on the same version of InDesign.

Thanks, Bob.

I will ask them about the version they are using. Fingers crossed it's that simple!

Oh, and here is the screen shot the client sent to me:

Also: have them check where they've placed the files you sent on their computer. For example, newer Macs do not like placing files directly onto the System hard drive... they need to be within their User folder that they have access to, or on an external that has appropraite permissions.

Did you send it as a zip file? If so they need to unzip the file.

On windows you can dig into a zip folder without extracting it's content.

As it's zipped, it cannot write the necessary idlk file.

That's my guess.

I'm guessing yes, they unzipped it. I have sent them files in the past which they successfully opened.

But I can ask!

Thanks.

Did you zip it up while it was open? That might have included the lock file.
