Photo places as gray block

I have one photo, out of about 40 in a 28-page publication, that is showing as nothing but a gray block.

This publication is an update to an older one that I have simply re-named and updated. This photo is one of about 10 that have carried over from the older version, but is the only one having this problem.

  Why might this be happening?

Right-click thew gray box and select Dispaly Performance and check to be sure it isn't set to Fast Display.

Does it show correctly when you export a PDF?

Does it help to open it in Photoshop and save as PSD?

Is there a eason, why it is in CMYK?

The reason this is CMYK is that it will eventually be printed. I will try saving as a PSD.

Are you aware that images normally should remain in RGB and not be converted before export to PDF? You can convert with Export to PDF. The result is the same if you have the same settings as in Photoshop. You can turn on the CMYK preview when you work with RGB images in Photoshop and see the result how the image will later be converted after PDF export.
With PDF X/3 and X/4 you can even gon on with RGB images, the conversion will take place in the APPE2 (Adobe PDF Print Engine 2).

Thanks for the information. I'm old and remember the days before PDF when everything HAD to be CMYK to be printed. Old way die hard.
