Placing excel spreadsheet with exact number of decimal places

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to place Excel tables (some of which contain formulas) in an Indesign document. In Excel, the different cells have different numbers of decimal places. Once placed in Indesign, some of them retain the correct number of decimal places, but some have too many, and trailing zeroes get deleted from decimal places (2.60 becomes 2.6). What can I do to make sure the values remain exactly as they appear in Excel? Thank you very much.

For the values to remain exactly as they appear in Excel, you will need to save the spreadsheet as csv. Then open the csv, select comma as delimiter, and then format each column as Text. Save as excel and import into Indesign.

Note: although you can change the cell format directly in Excel (Number > Text), this will change the number to how it was originally entered.

2nd Note: when placing an excel file in Indesign, you can control the decimal places of number format only, regardless of excel setting. This affects the entire sheet, you can not select individual columns.
