Positioning diacritical marks in InDesign CC2018

Several messages and replies refer to the "diacritical positioning window," which does not seem to exist in the InDesign CC2018 release.  Is there an alternate way to position these characters?  Many thanks for any suggestions.

What specific characters are you trying to type and in what OS? Generally they are only available if they are part of the current fon.t You can use the Glyphs panel to access dificult or impossible to type characters. You can also type the accent and the letter then use kerning to position them.

Thank you, Scott.  I am using El Capitan OS 10.11.16, and am trying to adjust horizontal position of the Hebrew vowel characters (nikudim) in the font Taamey David CLM.  These particular characters do not appear to respond to either the kerning or the tracking controls, but take a fixed position in relation to the adjacent character.   If this feature is built into the font, is there a way to instruct InDesign to ignore it?

Scott's advice is correct for most diacritics in most languages, but if you're talking about Hebrew (or Arabic, or Persian or Urdu) then you actually are looking for the Diacritic Positioning panel under the Type section in the Window menu. You would need to have the Middle East edition of InDesign installed to have that menu at all, so if you don't see it there in the Type section under the Window menu, you should follow these instructions to get it installed.

Did you recently install this version of InDesign by chance? 

I wonder if you had the ME (Middle Eastern) version installed earlier and this one may be the US/Euro version?

The features such as diacritical positioning are available in all versions of ID, it's just a question of if the interface exposes them via a setting in a dialog box, etc.
