I have been using InDesign for years and have generated many TOCs for several books. For some reason, the TOC won't generate on my current project. I have the book open. I

I have even tried opening all the chapters, but it still is not working.

Can you create book again - create new INDB file and add INDD files again?

The best would be if you add INDD files one-by-one checking if TOC generates correctly.

If it fails at some point - do IDMLing - export affected INDD file as IDML, open and save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

Have you tried on a different - new / test document - to rule out problem with corrupted INDD file / preferences ?

How often are you doing SAVE AS with a new name ?

What happens when you try? "won't generate" isn't a lot of info to go on.

When I ask the TOC to generate, all I get is the Title for the Table of Contents and its page number. The program doesn't seem to recognize the other documents in the book.

Have tried that with a single document file and it generated perfectly.

I'd do what @Robert Tkaczyk  suggests here.

Try a new book file and import the documents again - see if it works.

If not the step by step approach mentioned is probably the best way.

OK, we now have two threads here on the forum with this problem.

I wonder if you've found a bug.

What OS and version of InDesign?

Waht happens if you roll back a version?
