This is the Style Override Highlighter – you can turn it off and on in the Paragraph and Character Styles panels – also it doesn't appear when you're in Preview Mode. It's a useful facility, make it your friend!

Go to Preferences > composition and check if this checkbox is ticked. If yes, untick it.
