I have changed the inside margin width of my document. Why doesn't the purple border not reflect the change? Is this a bug?

Well, then we can assume that you have already done overrides of the margins values on individual pages.
Either when different parent pages were applied to the pages or if you selected pages in the Pages panel and did new values for the margins for them using the controls under main menu Layout.
Please show some pages from the Pages panel that do not react to the new values.
Make sure that is clear what parent pages are applied to them.
Perhaps better: share the InDesign document.
No need to include any contents like text frames, placed images or needed fonts.

Ahh, doh...that was the problem... mster pages were not updated. As soon as I applied "none" to pages the margins changed. Thank you, Uwe!

Oops...One problem. I can't get the master pages to change. I created a new master and it still shows the old border. I looked under layout and margins and the dimensions are correct. But the purple border has not adjusted.

What does that exactly mean?
I'm not aware that there is a mailbox here at the Adobe Forum.
Could you post a screenshot of that message?
Thanks,

I need to see the document to sort this out.
Put it on Dropbox and send me a link via private message through the forum.
Simply click my name and press the blue "Message" button.
As I already said: No need for any contents on the pages.
Just all document pages and the parent pages.
Thanks,
