Question About Text Placement

Hello all, I have a quick question! I've recently started using Indesign for college and I'm trying to make a poster, but when I add the two text objects to where I want them to be, they overlap onto the grey backround. I've tried Googling answers to this, Youtubing answers, etc but I just can't figure it out, and I also don't know how to even word it properly. Thanks guys, any help is appreciated!

Experiment, trying to make the text box or the type size (and leading) larger or smaller.

Play around with the different items to see how InDesign works.

Even better, take a little time to learn the rudiments of using InDesign, it is a professional application with a steep learning curve. Linkedin Learning have excellent step-by-step online video tutorials and you can get 30-days free access: https://www.linkedin.com/learning/indesign-2021-essential-training?trk=learning-serp_learning_search...

Did you draw a text box before you typed or did you just start typing? I would recommend you start with drawing a text box on your page first, Then type the words into the text box.

You have to have a text box in InDesign to enter text (unlike Photoshop, where you can just start typing or have a text box).

Thanks, I managed to resolve it by just pressing 'w'! 🙂

As you've discovered, pressing w is the keyboard shortcut to toggle between Normal and Preview views, which is very useful. The thing is, you mustn't have anything selected otherwise you'll insert an unwanted w in your document. My tip is to press Esc before the w, then you'll never get any unwanted w's on the text!

Select your text frame -> CTRL+B (text frame options) and then change off auto-sizing to needed parameters:

Thank you - I have another question if that's alright. So I want to duplicate a page so they are both next to each other but not touching each other. I've already unchecked 'Allow Document Pages to Shuffle', but I want the two pages to not be part of each other so I can keep designing and moving boxes and text and be able to compare them with each other. Thanks.

Have a look at Window > Arrange > Tile and select which arrangement you want.

Hmm, that doesn't seem to be it, unless I'm doing something wrong. I mean more like this - in the video the presenter says to press Shift+O to select the Artboard Tool then options and drag to make another page. The video was posted in 2017 and the buttons have changed now.

There are usually several ways to do something in InDesign. To create a new page you can: Layout > Pages > Add Page (note the keyboard shortcut) another way in the Pages Panel click on the Create New Page icon at the bottom of the panel and there are several more methods for you to discover.
