"Cannot Open the Document"

Upon trying to open various Indesign documents, I get a message that the particular file can't be opened because, "you may not have permission or the document may be open already." Neither of which is true and if I try a second time, the file opens just fine.

Hi kellyannmac,

is this document stored on a server volume?
Or perhaps stored on a Cloud volume where synchronization of files is taking place?

Is a feature enabled like e.g. "SmartSync" for Dropbox for example?

 

Then turn off that "SmartSync" feature so that any document on the volume cannot be occupied by a synching process.

Yes, the document is on a shared drive and not stored on the cloud.
