"W" key command not working to toggle to preview mode - just updated indesign

- also arrow keys not working to move objects. I've always used W to toggle to preview mode and now it works half the time, the rest of the time it closes the document. I know command + W closes, but just W should toggle to preview mode. 

 

This all started after I installed the latest update. any ideas?

Try resetting your preferences

The easiest way to reset everything is to delete the InDesign preferences: as soon as InDesign starts to boot hold down Shift, Alt, Ctrl (and Apple/Cmd if working on a Macintosh). A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Once you've got the issue sorted I suggest you get into the habit of pressing Escape before W – it ensures you have nothing selected in your document and therefore prevents unwanted Ws being inserted into your text.
