Removing Unwanted Square Brackets Around Data Merge Numbers

I have square brackets with every number i used data merge. Does anyone one have any idea about how to get rid of them 🙂 thank you

Those are XML markers - switch to Preview mode and they'll be gone - they are non-printable, zero-width glyphs.
