restore an InDesign file from Time Machine

Explorer ,
Mar 04, 2024 Mar 04, 2024

I managed to overwrite the copy of my file that had 12 pages of images placed. When I go into Time Machine all I get is the same blank template-created page. I know which file should work but when I restore and open, still blank. Is there a trick, I hope?

I don't use that. I use Dropbox and OneDrive which each make a copy of the versions as they're saved. You can roll back to any of them.

Is that because Time Machine doesn't work for InDesign, or just your personal preference? I'll look into that later, after i finish recreating the file

It's been a few years, but when I used a Time Capsule, it backed up my InDesign files exactly like all the other files I was working on.

Yeah that's what i was expecting. Hopefully it's not some Adobe hates Apple thing...

Time Machine works perfectly well with InDesign.

I have a coworker who has had to use Time Machine backups of InDesign files a few times in the past. The process seemed simple and worked fine. Adobe definitely doesn't hate Apple.

Must have been something I did then. I was in a slight panic when I realized it this morning. It's a monthly, and a lot of the ads (that is what the images were) repeat from month to month, so I copied the ad layout from last month so I only had to change the necessary and not start from scratch.

Depends on timing. TM backs ups every hour. Even if you saved the file successfully before, if the one you wnat to go back to is after the last time TM did an incremental, it doesn't know about it.
