Retaining pop-up functionality in InDesign?

Community Beginner ,
Nov 26, 2025 Nov 26, 2025

I have created a children's book that is more than 200 pages long. The document has multiple pop-ups on each page. Saving the document as an interactive PDF does not allow the pop-up functions to work when the PDF is opened. How can I save this document so that all the pop-ups will work when the document is opened. I want it to work for a large variety of users. Thank you!

Interactive PDF is very limited and most advanced interactions simply do not work today. Pop ups built in InDesign will not function in Acrobat or any other reader. If you need reliable interactivity you have to export to EPUB fixed layout or build the project in something like InDesign plus HTML5 through a plugin or a separate app framework like In5 by Ajar. PDF is not really a viable format for this kind of behaviour, especially if you need it to work for many users across different devices.
