My desktop broke and so had to use my Dad's laptop and upload indesign on that and logged in as me.

I've done that and logged into my cloud but can not find my document that I need desperately because it is a university assignment. It is not on Indesign, the creative cloud or my normal cloud.

If your original files are only saved on your desktop, your best option might be to get the desktop fixed and try to recover your files. What are the symptoms on your desktop?

An inexpensive external hard drive and backup software (like Time Machine on a Mac) is good insurance in the future.

If, as Luke suggests, there is a local copy of the file on the desktop, and the harddrive/SSD from the desktop is operable, you may be able to use an external drive dock to pull the drive and access anything that's on it. I used to do that for old systems that I retired but kept the drives as archived backups, but haven't looked for a cableror dock that will interface with an SSD.
