Sequential Numbering on Same Page (Avery Labels) - InDesign Data Merge

Help!!  I am trying to perform a Data Merge in InDesign (which I have done many times). However, the issue I am having is getting multple records (sequential numbers) on a SINGLE page. Please see attached PDF showing what I am trying to acheive.

I have 200 part numbers in a .CSV data file. In the originating Excel file, the numbers are listed in Column A, with the heading "NUM". My InDesign document is set up as a single page, 8.5x11. When creating the merged document, it repeats the first part number on page 1, the second number on page 2, and so forth.... I have tried playing with the Multiple Record Layout settings but it is not working.

How do I get it to put unique numbers on each page rather than repeating the same number?

Details in summary:

  • Avery label page size - 8.5x11
  • 5 labels per page (each label has one part number on it - see attached)
  • 200 part numbers / 5 labels per sheet = 40 sheets

Those are just numbers?

If that's the only data you want to import, you have two options:

- Import as a text and reflow between linked / threaded TextFrames,

or

- use Bullets and Numbering - and just empty paragraphs - in linked / threaded TextFrames.

The actual labels are going to be a bit more complex than just numbers. Each label will have more than one data field, there will also be a description and barcode. I am really hoping to pull the data from the .CSV rather than reflow,  is that not possible?

@MEONHOMES

I'm this case - you need DataMerge - for QR codes.

Barcodes - you'll have to generate externally.

And as @Peter Spier said - make just ONE - then InDesign duplicate them.

Show us your template...

For Data merge with multiple records per page you should have only one text frame the size of your label on the template.

And if you've used preview, re-make the template and try again without the preview step.

Here is the iD test file I've been using - it has one text box, the avery template is "created" using guides. (For testing I have just been using the CSV file (previously attached) for simplicity...

Sample file works fine here.

Re-make the template and merge without preview.
