Since updating to 2025... text thread problems

Hi!
Since updating to InDesign 2025 (20.1) I can no longer break text threads without the application giving me the beach ball of death and then completely crashing.
I have tried uninstalling and reverting back to 2024 versions, clearing my preferences, and creating a completely new document... however, nothing has worked.
This is super frustrating, especially when working on books of 300+ pages.
Do anyone have any tips?

When you update the OS
Try resetting your preferences - but more importantly you might need to deep clean your caches
Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

--------
Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
-------
Rollback to a previous InDeisgn version might be your other option unfortunately

Hi @imashleysantoro it sounds like this known bug. If you read that page you might get an idea of how to fix it. I had the problem and it might have been related to my font manager RightFont which I don't use any more. Honestly I'm not sure if that was the issue, but it does seem to be font-related. You might need to try a few things, such as closing fonts, or quiting font manager apps and see how you go. Good luck.

Hi @imashleysantoro,
I hope the suggestions from the experts helped! Were you able to resolve the issue after updating macOS, clearing preferences, or checking for font conflicts? If not, did quitting any font manager apps make a difference?
Let us know the update.

Hi! Sadly, nothing has worked so far.
However, I can use splitstory and breakframe from the applescript and javascript options - these aren't the best options, but they seem to work at least.
