I've been using InDesign for many years, and here's something that has always bugged me. I use guides constantly for positioning, and sometimes the vertical guides won't be available until a horizontal guide has been drawn or the vertical ruler has been clicked, but not always. Is this a program bug? Is it intentional, and if so is there a reason for it? Is there a setting in preferences to prevent this from happening? Any insights would be appreciated, thank you!

Hi @mich.leclair53:
I have never experienced this on any version of InDesign, Mac or Windows. There is no setting to control this.
If you think you have found a bug, the place to report it is here: https://indesign.uservoice.com so that the Adobe engineers will see it. We are a user-to-user forum, here to explain how InDesign features work.

Well, it's been happening to me with InDesign for more than 10 years, so I don't think I'm imagining it. I go to pull a vertical or horizontal guide from the top or bottom ruler and nothing happens unless I pull one from the opposite ruler first. This can happen between pages, as if the document forgot I'd been using guides. I'd love if someone else who's had this issue and solved it could give me a holler. Thank you!
