Spellchecking language stuck on Indonesian?

Explorer ,
Jun 13, 2025 Jun 13, 2025

Whenever I try to run a spellcheck in InDesign, it's started coming up with the language to check being Indonesian, instead of UK English!

Screenshot 2025-06-13 at 11.01.41.png

Whenever I go to change the dictionary to UK English, no matter how many times I change it and save the settings, spellcheck stays stuck in Indonesian, meaning that it queries EVERY...  SINGLE...  WORD!

I've updated to the latest version, quit and rebooted InDesign, shut down and rebooted my Mac (iMac 2019 Intel, running Sequoia 15.5), but it stays stuck on Indonesian!

Anyone else experiencing this, and how have you solved it?

Select some text and open the Character panel. What language is applied? If it's not UK English, check the paragraph style that's applied to the text. If there's a character style applied, check whether it set a language.

To set a default (for new documents), close all documents and set UK English in Edit > Preferences > Dictionary.

Found it in the paragraph styling...  No idea when that changed over, but my default dictionary is set to UK English!

Also, because Language is a Character attribute, it’s possible to have any number of languages applied to a document’s texts. This line of text has 4 languages applied, only the ld of World is set to Indonesian, so the Spell Checker flags everything
