Splitting story with StorySplitter.jsx script not working in INDD 2025

I compose long complex books that have both footnotes and endnotes, and I need the ability to restart the foot- and endnote numbering at the beginning of each new chapter. A while back when I posted to this forum, I was able to download a script called StorySplitter.jsx that enabled me to restart foot- and endnote numbering at the beginning of each new chapter. The script "SplitStory.jpx" that comes with Indesign DOES NOT perform the same function and will split text on ALL pages. StorySplitter.jsx script no longer functions with INDD 2025. Can anyone please supply an update to StorySplitter or a workaround? If so, thank you!

Hi @Textbook Perfect I haven't tried, but are you using this version? Also you could try this script, which looks great.

Yes, that is the version od StorySplitter I'm using. Didn't realize it was created in 2006. The Break Text Thread script does not work with endnotes if you read the limitations. Thanks anyway. Adobe will need to create one
(if enough people ask!), or someone who knows how to update StorySplittter to be compatible with INDD 2025 going forward.

Trying to update the old script might be fun (for persons who like that sort of thing, of course) but it's faster and easier to just make a "Version N" folder in one's Scripts folder. So e.g. if the script worked in 2024, which was version 19, the script should run from a folder called "Version 19.0," if I recall correctly.

Thanks @Joel Cherney I always forget that option. I will be interested to see if it solves the problem here. There's a solid chance, but sometimes the problem can be related to something else, such as a change in the OS.

And you can force script to use a specific vversion of InDesign through "#target name":
