Indesign is taking 5 minutes to start-up and open one file (on a Mac running Big Sur). After I double click on the file to open, it's taking 2 1/2 minutes to open the welcome screen (which I don't need) and then another 2 1/2 to 3 minutes to open the file. At various times throughout the process, it tells me "Indesign is not responding," but then it does.
This can't be the way it's supposed to work, is it????? HELP!
(I used CS5 for years and finally had to surrender and go to CC, so I'm not a novice.)

But a number of things have changed since CS5, not all of them for the better.
There are other things you may be able to do to speed up the process. We don't know the specifications for your system or what kind of files you're working with/how complex they are. If you can share that information, that'll help us advise you on other possibilities for speeding up InDesign on your system. But the three things I outlined above are a good place to start. Try these, and let us know if you've had any progress. And if you share the information requested at the start of this paragraph, it'll help us help you.
Hopefully this will speed up your work with InDesign to a good degree.
Randy

M1 or Intel Mac?
What Indesign version?

Is the delay in InDesign's load time, or the file that's opening? How long does InDesign take to load if you just launch the application without also loading a file?
