Strange problem: Pasting text to InDesign CC2015 always adds cyan color

Every time I paste a text into any InDesign document in InDesign CC2015 – it also imports the color 100% cyan to my swatch library. (They text is still black though, and there is no background color or anything.)

Anyone knows why this happens?!?

Hi Rob,

cleaning Preferences and Caches would not help.

Just did that with CC 2018.1. The problem persists.

You really have to uninstall.

And during a reinstall you must not migrate preferences.

Just a follow up on installing without migrating preferences from legacy versions of InDesign installed.

Finally I was able to manage this with InDesign CC 2018.1.

Here the steps I did for Mac OS X:

1. Uninstalled CC 2018.1 with all preferences

2. Downloaded a CC 2018 DMG installer from:

All the New Adobe CC 2018 Direct Download Links, Now Available! | ProDesignTools

3. Installed CC 2018 with the DMG installer, InDesign will start up immediately.

Now version 13.0.0.125 is installed.

4. Quit InDesign.

5. Go to the folder where the preferences are stored—Version 13.0—duplicate that folder to a different folder or zip that folder.

6. Go to Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app and install CC 2018.1.

Most important:

Be careful to choose the option not to uninstall all previous versions of InDesign!

Clicking the option not to migrate preferences can be done, but effectively this will not work.

That's a bug.

BTW: A DMG file for CC 2018.1 is not available at ProDesignTools, maybe never will.

Important:

7. Before you start up InDesign CC 2018.1 remove the preferences Version 13.0 folder and maybe also the InDesign cache.

Now move the old preferences you saved in #5 back in place or restore them from the zip-file.

Only then start up InDesign CC 2018.1 the first time.

For me that procedure solved the problem, that if I copy/paste text from e.g. a TextEdit file, that color C=0 M=100 Y=0 K=0, for others it's C=100 M=0 Y=0 K=0, will be added to the Swatches panel.

Three questions about Uwe's solution:

1. I didn't quite understand from reading those instructions - would we end up with the preferences we actually want from old versions, or do we have to ditch everything to get rid of that cyan ghost?

2. If I wait until a future version upgrade time (e.g. 2019) to jump through these hoops, will that simplify things (perhaps not need to install from two different sources and dance between them)? I'm not in a big hurry (I almost never do monochrome projects), but it would be nice to eventually cut the ties.

3. Finally, has anyone tried this with Windows, or only Mac?

my experience with that is on Mac OS X.

And yes, if you follow my instructions you have to do new workspaces from scratch.

Or all other settings you are used to have.

I cannot tell if a new version (e.g. CC 2019) will honor the options not to migrate old settings, but I think the developers are aware of the problem and I hope that they are working on the issue.

Hi,

Although an old thread, but because it has come at the top again due to some comments, I would like to add that this issue has been fixed with CC 2018 release of InDesign. With this release, we have changed the default Paragraph Shading colour from Cyan to 20% tint [Black].

Thus for all new documents, the shading color that will come by default will not be Cyan. You will also not be seeing "Cyan" in used swatches list when it is not actually being used in the document.
