suppressing the header char style when making TOC

Hi all,

I have the header style, formatted generally as bold:

chapter3 title example

however in some cases i have a words in the titles which I have to additionally marked as italics:

chapter 4 title example italic word

To do this I apply a character style called bold-italics.

These headers are included in TOC, of the run in layout, where the corresponding TOC style is formatted as regular:

chapter1; chapter2;chapter3 title example; chapter 4 title example italic word

The word italic appears in TOC with the char style attributes of the header style, as the corresponding TOC style inherits the char style of the header style.

I've tried to use the GREP within the TOC style applying the char style [none] to the word italic, but for unknown reason it doesn't work.

Any idea of how to supress this automatically?

Hi Mike,

I can see one solution:

[1] Add a text variable that picks up the headline's contents. Do that with a Running Header type of text variable.

[2] Let the TOC pick up the contents of the running header.

thanks, got it.

I'm afraid however it does'n solve my issue. Key point is that my TOC is run in. Hence introducing new style (variable) breaks the layout.
