Uwe

Getestet mit Indesign 15 und 18.5

I see what you mean. While, as @Dave Creamer of IDEAS has already mentioned, Black is set to overprint by default in Preferences, this isn't reflected in the Attributes panel.

When you convert Black text to outlines, Overprint Fill becomes explicitly checked in the Attributes Panel. As a result of which, the Overprint Fill selection remains applied even when you change the outlined text color.

I tend to agree that it's a bug. It's inconsistent with the default Black overprin

Don't forget that InDesign and Acrobat Pro both have a Seperation Preview feature.

Thanks Dave.

If you convert a text into drawing paths, how are you supposed to realise that indesign secretly sets the status of the object to overprint and retains this status, even if the object is no longer black but blue?

I have never used the overprint function and therefore there was no reason to use the overprint preview.

This was a very simple page with a photo and a blue logo on it.

I agree, this is buggy behavior. Especially considering that a black pen object (ostensibly the same as an outlined text object) is not set to overprint even when black.

I would definitely say that is NOT your fault as the behavior makes no sense.

But that overprint setting remains when you change the object color to anything else later. That is the problem.

I tend to agree that it's a bug. It's inconsistent with the default Black overprint behavior. When you convert Black text to outlines, the Overprint Fill checkbox should NOT become explicitly checked in the Attributes Panel.

p.s. you can probably help avoid this problem by checking this option in your preflight profile:

i assume it will flag elements where Overprint Fill is explicitly applied (although i haven't tested it yet).

This is a horribly embarrassing mistake that has never happened to me in 30 years and many thousands of print documents.

p.p.s. i can assure you that even the most experienced users can fall into the trap of unintended overprint once in a while.

I didn't realise until today that I could create an unintentional overprint without ever having called up the attributes panel in my life 🙂
Thanks for your support.

However, if one creates a black shape, it still overprints but the Attributes overprint does not activate.
