text box won't allow click off

Have any of you had the issue in InDesign where anytime you clicked on a text box then try to click off of it, it wants to make a new linked box? It feels like I have accidentally hit a shortcut or something to turn this on and I can't find where to turn it off

You might be hitting the OutPort

Sorry just seen this and I'm sure you've already tried these things but if not:

Switch off Smart Text Reflow in Type under preferences and double-click the out port to stop the threading. Always useful to have Choose View > Extras > Show Text Threads on.
